266 294 protected train passages — and counting

Protect your network from wildlife collisions

  • Blue Sentinel alerts wildlife in real time, but only when a train is approaching, cutting collisions on your worst hotspots by up to 90%*
*Measured July 2024–December 2025 vs. equivalent prior period, Loire pilot corridor
  • Co-developed with SNCF Réseau and deployed across 6 regions of France’s national network

Who we are

ElanRail is a railway technology company. We design dynamic wildlife collision prevention systems that keep trains and wildlife safely apart — alerting animals only as a train passes, on the lines where strikes happen most.

The result: safer lines, fewer delays and cancellations, and a railway that protects biodiversity rather than fencing it out.

Backed by two decades of detection-and-prevention engineering, ElanRail designs, manufactures and deploys Blue Sentinel itself. Proven on France’s national network with SNCF Réseau, it is now built for Europe’s railways — with the industrial capacity to scale across the continent.

Blue Sentinel: a dynamic wildlife collision prevention system

Blue Sentinel is a self-powered network of connected alert beacons installed lineside. Using intelligent detection and brief, targeted audio and light signals, it deters wildlife from the track only as a train passes, without harming animals and without disrupting rail operations.
It is a cost-effective alternative to fencing, and a complement to it where needed, combining rail service reliability with ecological continuity.

Field-tested on France's national network

Co-developed with SNCF Réseau (the French rail infrastructure manager), Blue Sentinel is now deployed across six regions in France.

Watch the video testimonial from the SNCF Réseau teams about this successful deployment (in French).

Blue Sentinel:
the right alert, at the right time, in the right place

Detect the train

A detection beacon installed upstream identifies the approaching train and measures its actual speed.

Trigger the alert

Alert beacons activate automatically along the protected zone ahead of the approaching train.

Deter wildlife

The beacons emit brief acoustic and light signals, deterring animals from the track as the train passes. The rest of the time, around 98%, wildlife can cross freely.

ElanRail, the Nantes-based company behind the dynamic wildlife collision prevention system deployed by SNCF Réseau

Every year, 5,000 trains are disrupted by collisions with wildlife. ElanRail has developed a dynamic wildlife collision prevention system, deployed by SNCF Réseau.
